Calvary Baptist Church – Senior Pastor Search

Calvary Baptist Church is a GARBC church located in Southeastern Ohio. Started in 1947 with a commitment to the supremacy of Christ and the sufficiency of His Word, we are a warm fellowship with firm doctrinal commitments and a strong desire to serve and proclaim Jesus in the place He has planted us.

We are seeking a qualified man to serve in the role of Senior Pastor.

1. This man should have a credible testimony of God’s drawing him to respond in faith to the Gospel and being aligned to the requirements for elder listed in Titus 1:6-9 & 1Tim 3:1-7. He must be above reproach in regard to his home, self control, personal integrity, and handling biblical truth.

2. This man should be able to give hearty agreement to:
• CBC’s doctrinal statement & constitution (see Attachment 1)
• CBC’s core principles (see Attachment 2)
• CBC’s distinctives defined (see Attachment 3)

3. This man should understand that a Pastor/Elder/Overseer’s gifting, personality, and experience can work its way out in a variety of different ministries and emphasis, however:
• The primary way a Pastor ministers to the flock is in the expositional preaching of God’s Word
• As a “pastor”, he is expected to shepherd, care for, nurture, and protect God’s flock.
• As an “elder”, he is expected to demonstrate maturity and provide wisdom.
• As an “overseer”, he is expected to provide leadership and guidance.
• At CBC we believe every member is a minister and that part of following Jesus is helping others follow Jesus. To this end, the Pastor serves as something of a “player-coach”. Yes, he himself does ministry, but not all of it. He coaches and guides the flock in regards to (a) knowing Christ, (b) knowing Christ’s people, (c) growing in Christlikeness, and (d) going for Christ in fulfillment of the great commission.

Given these foundational requirements, the position of senior pastor at Calvary Baptist Church includes…
A. Spending significant time in prayer and bible study.
B. Serve as the spiritual leader, advisor, and overseer of the congregation.
C. Work with the worship leader in planning and conducting all worship services.
D. Prepare for and preach the Word of God in various church services and lead in observing the ordinances.
E. Arrange for pulpit supply in case of absence.
F. Lead the church in evangelism and outreach.
G. Lead the church in compassion ministry for persons in the church and the community.
H. Conduct biblical counseling, perform weddings, and conduct funerals.
I. Serve as the moderator of church business meetings and as a member ex-officio of the deacon board and the trustee board.
J. Interview potential new church members and lead the new members class.
K. Work with the deacon board and ministry leaders in planning, evaluating, and equipping for various church ministries. Identify potential ministry needs, and help the church identify and use each member’s gifts.
L. Help the church live out its membership covenant.
M. Seek to be a Christlike example.
N. Other duties as needed.
